Scotland lies the most northerly of the United Kingdom and occupies a third of the island of Great Britain. The name derived from the Latin, Scotia, land of the Scots, a Celtic people from Ireland who settled on the west coast of Great Britain in around the 5th century AD.

Edinburgh city is the capital of Scotland and lies on the east coast, on the south bank of the Firth of Forth an estuary that opens into the North Sea. It has an estimated population of 489000. Which make it the second most populous city in Scotland.

The national drink of Scotland is Scotch whisky. All Scotch whisky was originally made from malted barley. Commercial distilleries started to make whisky from wheat and rye in the late 18th century. All scotch whisky must be aged in oak barrels for at least three years and be a minimum of 40% ABV.
